DANCE
Havelock North High School year 10 girls Olivia
Campbell, Flo Mills, Georgia Rathbone, Jemimah Frost, Emma Johnson and Nicole Brebner
wowed the audience and judges at this year
Secondary Schools’ Dance
Competition, winning 1st Place in their Junior
Section. Looking stunning and sophisticated in
their original deco inspired costumes the girls’
work was fluid and innovative, showing a huge
variety of skill and dedication to their art. The
whole dance was choreographed by the girls
themselves, the judges commented their dance
was “amazing and outstanding”. Teacher and
organiser Lisa Hargreaves was thrilled for the
girls, this is also the second consecutive year
our juniors have taken first place.
Well done!!
DEBATING
This year we have fielded teams at years 10-13. Results have been mixed but our debaters have been very
enthusiastic. There have been some interesting debates including one for senior debaters about whether the
Ruataniwha Dam should go ahead. The junior debating was reintroduced this year with us entering two year 10
teams. Year 9 debating as for last year was practised in class apart from a couple of students (Liam Wilcock
and Jemma Kendon) who were head-hunted at the last minute for a year 11 debate, and performed really well.
Teams were:
Year 10: (Coach - Mr.Murfitt)
Ella Knobloch, Nicole Brebner, Zahn
Philip, Ben Caldwell,
Olivia Campbell, Flo Mills
Year 11: (Coach - Mrs. Thomas)
Jack Francois, Jack Roberts, Nathan
Miller, Teag McKay
Years 12 and 13
(Coach - Mr. Bird)
Kelsey Aldersley, Jess Brooker, Andrew Russell, Heath Dineen, Brandon
Jones, Elise Legarth, Charlotte Reay,
