The band was delighted to be awarded one of the two major awards. The adjudicator judged them to
have given the most entertaining performance of the day, praising them for their stage presence, quality of
music and sense of fun. In a competition against all ages this was a considerable achievement.
On the
day they were joined on stage by Future Prospect and this new collaboration was certainly a hit with the
audience. Congratulations also go to Tim Keip, Chris Clarke, Sam McKeever and Sam Frost who were
commended for their vocal performance of ‘I will follow him’ from the movie Sister Act.
The winning
performance also featured soloist Laurence de Burg on oboe in a piece arranged for him by Mr. Cargill.
Laurence demonstrated his considerable musicality and versatility having won the HNHS Talent Quest
competition on the saxophone only the day before. Arran Cargill-Brown was winner of
Most Talented Junior Student with his rendition of ‘I kissed a girl’ by Katie Perry.
More success followed for our students with
Grace Irwin and Laurence de Burg reaching
the finals of the Hawkes Bay Young
Musician of the year competition.
This represented a huge achievement for
both fine musicians, recognition of their
hard work on the piano and clarinet.
The awesome Sleeping Giant Showcase,
held at the Hastings Opera House, and the
various school prize giving performances
brought our busy musical year to a close.
Well done musicians for all your hard work
over the year.
