schoolwork and professional life in a chemistry research lab, lifeguarding at the on campus pool, and working as a Resident Assistant for the Pre-College / Summer Bridge / Rising seniors programs during the summer of 2013. Off campus, she volunteers at a local community center where she teaches tap dance to high school students. Sarah J. aspires to be a role model to others and plans on going to graduate school to become a midwife.
Jordan Green is a junior political science and English Arts double major from Virginia Beach, VA. He is a member of the Freddye T. Davy Honors College. Jordan is a MSIII cadet in the Army ROTC program and is currently serving as the cadet platoon leader. His ultimate goal is to become a lawyer in the United States Army JAG Corps. Currently, he is the Vice-President of the Political Science / Pre-law Institute and is an active member of the Pre-Law chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International. Jordan is a great student leader, evidence both in his capacity as the Head Resident Assistant for the 2013 Pre-College / Summer Bridge Program and his membership in the Greer Dawson-Wilson Student Leadership Program at Hampton University. In his community, He assists with the African American male scholarship and uplift, volunteering as a peer mentor and counselor at his high school. Jordan maintains a 3.4 GPA and tutors college level English, History, and Political Science with the Student Support Services tutor program. As a model Hamptonion, he demonstrates strong character and integrity.
Dr. Kwame M. Brown is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Hampton University, Dr. Kwame M. Brown began his own movement journey as a young man that wanted to learn to move better. This journey has led him to earn a Ph. D. in developmental neuroscience( Georgetown,’ 03) and over a thousand hours of study of movement disciplines like yoga, Pilates, play based fitness, martial arts, athletic training, dance, strength training, and therapeutic movement. His professional history includes several years in management with the Fitness and Wellness Section, Fairfax County Park Authority, as well as serving various nonprofits and government agencies as an advisor on physical play in childhood and adolescence.
Through his company Move Theory( http:// drkwamebrown. com), and its main driver, The FUNction Method, Dr. Brown trains coaches, teachers, and parents to engage kids of all ages( including adolescents) in designing their own playful movement experiences. FUNction Method trainees learn to use Coachable Moments during play to affect positive change in physical competency, social interaction skills, and enjoyment of physical activity.
