The HU Museum was a very interesting place, full of history that was great to learn. There was history about African American that I had have never heard of. Out of them all I choose four that stood out to me the most.
“ The Banjo Lesson”, is a piece that includes a grandfather showing his grandson how to play the banjo. I liked this piece because the oil on the canvas seemed so realistic. The piece showed the close relationship between these two and you could see the little boys enthusiasm.

“ Seascape”, a breathtaking image of the ocean. The oil on panel really emphasized the crash of the waves and you could see every little detail. Being by an ocean is one of my favorite places to be and this painting reminded me just why. Edward M. Bannister painted this piece.
“ Black Belt”, a painting during the time of segregation. This painting showed even though African Americans were going through hard time that didn’ t stop them from having a good time. This oil on canvas was filled with bright colors during a jazzy night in New Orleans. These people has a sense of pride and they didn’ t let what was happening around affect would could be happening now. This piece was painted by Henry O’ Tanner.
“ Jitterbugs”, is very similar to Black Belt and shows a couple dancing with a jazzy feel. What attracted me the most was that the colors wee so bright just like the happiness in the painting. You could see in that moment that the segregation going on didn’ t affect them.
