THE
FORMER
STANFORD STUDENT-ATHLETES
& USE OF
STANFORD ATHLETICS FACILITIES
It is fairly common for former Stanford student-athletes
to retun to the Farm and want to use Stanford Athletics
facilities for their own personal workout or to join in a
team practice.
Former Stanford student-athletes may participate in occasional practices with your team (maximum of three
per quarter). However, these individuals may not provide any coaching or instruction at any time to your student-athletes unless they are considered your volunteer
coach or one of your countable coaches.
If a former Stanford student-athlete requests to use a
Stanford Athletics facility, such as the facility your team
utilizes, or a sports performance facility, the individual
needs to receive prior approval from DAPER through
the Individual/Former Student-Athlete Facility Use
form. Copies of this form can be picked up from Patrick
Dunkley or in the Compliance Services Office.

compliance question of the month
Is it permissible for the coach to review film with Wilson?
No, it is not permissible...
NCAA Bylaw 14.1.7.1.1.1 notes that a prospective studentathlete shall not engage in any practice activities (e.g., review
of playbook, chalk talk, film review) with a coaching staff
member prior to his or her full-time enrollment or official
report to pre-season practice.
A prospective student-athlete who has signed a National Letter
of Intent shall not observe a Stanford off-field or off-court
practice session (e.g., meeting, film review) that is closed to the
general public. A prospective student-athlete may observe
a Stanford on-field or on-court practice session (including a
session that is closed to the general public), regardless of
whether he or she has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Do you have an athlete living with
a local family this quar ter?
If a student-athlete is living with a local family this winter quarter, please remind them to stop by the Compliance
Services Office to obtain a Non-Traditional Housing Form during the first week of classes. In order to comply wit h
NCAA rules, the student-athlete will need to pay the market rate for the type of summer living arrangement. The
Compliance Services Office will review the housing arrangement and set a specific monthly rate for the studentathlete based upon current market factors. If you have any questions about student-athletes living off-campus with
donor families, please contact Shannon Wilson.
