Compliance Services Newsletter ry Februa s ee NLI Sign OFFICIAL VISIT GENERAL REMINDERS January 2014 IS YOUR TEAM ROSTER UP-TO-DATE? Head coaches are responsible for maintaining their team rosters throughout the year. Therefore, if you have not done so, please check your 2013-14 team roster in the ACS database (Team Manager). If you need to ADD a student-athlete to your roster or DROP a student-athlete from your roster, please stop by the Compliance Services Office to obtain the relevant form. In anticipation of your upcoming official visits prior to the February NLI signing period, please check out the official visit reminders below: • Personalized recruiting aids (e.g., ballons, welcome signs, personalized jerseys, score board presentations) are not permitted in any location, including the recruit’s hotel room, the locker room, or a coach’s office. • Recruits may not participate in game-day simulations (e.g., running on the field, pre-game team walks, riding on team bus, etc.). If you provide a recruit with a pre-game field pass for a competition, the student-athlete host and recruit must be off of the field or court before the start of the game. • Stanford may not publicize a recruit’s visit to campus (including on Twitter or Facebook). Please make sure your current student-athletes know that they also cannot publicize a recruit’s visit, including the posting of a photo with a recruit on a social media site. • Recruits cannot have any interaction with alumni, donors, fans, or former Stanford student-athletes. • A maximum of $40 for each day ($80 max) may be given for the cost of entertaining the student host and recruit (including the recruit’s parents). • Only one student-athlete may receive a complimentary meal while accompanying a recruit. The meal must take place on campus if you would like to combine your team’s occasional meal (three per quarter) with an official visit. • Stanford may only pay for meals for the recruit and his/her parents. Siblings’ meals cannot be provided. • Please remember to complete all necessary ACS forms. A recruit may arrive after 5 pm the day before the visit and receive lodging and dinner from Stanford. However, this exception is only for recruits who are unable to arrive the next morning for the start of the visit. This exception should not be used for local recruits (e.g., within a 50 mile radius). DROP forms are required when: • A student-athlete quits a team. • A student-athlete is cut from a team. • A student-athlete takes a leave of absence. ADD forms are required when: • A walk-on is being added to the roster. • A student-athlete returns from a leave of absence. • A student-athlete returns from study abroad. Please remember all student-athletes must attend an eligibility meeting, receive a physical exam, and have their practice eligibility approved by Compliance Services before they can be added to a roster. Just Axe! compliance question of the month Wilson is a senior in high school and has been recruited by Ocean State University (OSU) to play basketball next year. Wilson lives in the locale of the campus and would like to attend a few of OSU's practices this spring. Wilson is eager to learn OSU's offensive system, so he contacted one of the coaches and asked if he could review film with him after one of the practices. Is it permissible for the coach to review film with Wilson? Check your answer on page 2! •
