NLI Sign OFFICIAL VISIT
GENERAL REMINDERS
January 2014
IS YOUR TEAM ROSTER UP-TO-DATE?
Head coaches are responsible for maintaining their
team rosters throughout the year. Therefore, if you
have not done so, please check your 2013-14 team
roster in the ACS database (Team Manager). If you
need to ADD a student-athlete to your roster or DROP
a student-athlete from your roster, please stop by the
Compliance Services Office to obtain the relevant form.
In anticipation of your upcoming official visits prior to
the February NLI signing period, please check out the
official visit reminders below:
•
Personalized recruiting aids (e.g., ballons,
welcome signs, personalized jerseys, score board
presentations) are not permitted in any location,
including the recruit’s hotel room, the locker room,
or a coach’s office.
•
Recruits may not participate in game-day
simulations (e.g., running on the field, pre-game
team walks, riding on team bus, etc.). If you
provide a recruit with a pre-game field pass for a
competition, the student-athlete host and recruit
must be off of the field or court before the start of
the game.
•
Stanford may not publicize a recruit’s visit to
campus (including on Twitter or Facebook). Please
make sure your current student-athletes know that
they also cannot publicize a recruit’s visit, including
the posting of a photo with a recruit on a social
media site.
•
Recruits cannot have any interaction with alumni,
donors, fans, or former Stanford student-athletes.
•
A maximum of $40 for each day ($80 max) may be
given for the cost of entertaining the student host
and recruit (including the recruit’s parents).
•
Only one student-athlete may receive a
complimentary meal while accompanying a recruit.
The meal must take place on campus if you would
like to combine your team’s occasional meal (three
per quarter) with an official visit.
•
Stanford may only pay for meals for the recruit and
his/her parents. Siblings’ meals cannot be provided.
•
Please remember to complete all necessary ACS
forms.
A recruit may arrive after 5 pm the day before the
visit and receive lodging and dinner from Stanford.
However, this exception is only for recruits who are
unable to arrive the next morning for the start of the
visit. This exception should not be used for local
recruits (e.g., within a 50 mile radius).
DROP forms are required when:
• A student-athlete quits a team.
• A student-athlete is cut from a team.
• A student-athlete takes a leave of absence.
ADD forms are required when:
• A walk-on is being added to the roster.
• A student-athlete returns from a leave of absence.
• A student-athlete returns from study abroad.
Please remember all student-athletes must attend
an eligibility meeting, receive a physical exam, and
have their practice eligibility approved by Compliance
Services before they can be added to a roster.
Please contact Shannon Wilson in the CS Office if you
have any questions about your team roster.
Just Axe!
compliance question of the month
Wilson is a senior in high school and has been recruited by
Ocean State University (OSU) to play basketball next year.
Wilson lives in the locale of the campus and would like to
attend a few of OSU's practices this spring. Wilson is eager
to learn OSU's offensive system, so he contacted one of the
coaches and asked if he could review film with him after one
of the practices.
Is it permissible for the coach to review film with Wilson?
Check your answer on page 2!
