Cancer Hospital Josh Bradley, Jennifer Polombo, and Emily Nanny met shortly after beginning new nursing careers at UNC Hospitals while participating in the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) Nurse Residency Programâ„¢ in place at UNCH. As part of the requirement for an evidence-based project and poster, the three began exploring the idea of creating an educational brochure for patients aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of hand-washing to prevent catheter associated blood stream infections (CABSI). Their idea and poster was a big success, and they were asked to present it again at a hospital-wide health care fair. The prestige did not stop there. They were asked to write an abstract and enter their presentation in a national contest for the chance to present in Las Vegas at the 2011 national UHC Nurse Residency Programâ„¢ and Chief Nursing Officers Council Meeting. 09
