Bududa Landslide Fundraisers

Bamasaba in USA and Canada supplement their
giving for the Bududa disaster by organizing fundraiser in two cities. Toronto city under the leadership
of Bob Mushikori and New York city under the
leadership of Edward Wanda.
Immediately after the landslide disaster, NAMCA
launched fundraising drives to raise money to help the
suffering people in Bududa district. In Toronto, Bob
Mushikori, who hails from Bududa district, rounded up
the Uganda community to raise fund to help the suffering
people of Bududa.
The fundraising function was held at the Anglican Church
of Canada space which was donated for Fund-raiser in
the Church of St. John Divine on April 10 2010.
Ugandans from other communities come out in large
numbers, participated and successfully raised $1,300 in
cash and $1,900 in pledges.
The NAMCA members and the people of Bududa
appreciate this noble cause. Special appreciation goes to
the Uganda communities and friends in Canada.
Much appreciated are the organizing committee: Petua
Wamimbi who prepared and cooked the traditional
meal with ‘malewa’, Catherine Bukeni who cooked the
Chapati,Jane Namunane , Catherine Nabudere travelled
a Journey of 2 hours to bring food ,food donations come
from Nebbi district members. Last but not least many
thanks to Catherine Nova from Buganda who designed
and donated the flyers, Jackie Okumu from Bukedi
who designed the cards, Rachel Wasikye Wrights who
served as the Chief Fund collector. Dr. John Wasike who
decorated the venue, Hon. Michael Werikhe who donated
money to buy start up beer, and Gertrude Mushikori who
donated a gift bucket.
Two cases of beer and 2 bottle of Uganda Waragi
quarters from Buganda Community remained and will
be used to raise fund at the AGM in Toronto 2010.
Additional fundraising efforts are still under way, one
coming on May 22 in Georgia under the leadership of
Dr. Florence Wakoko.
Many thanks to the retired Commissioner of Police of
Toronto, Julian Austin, representative from Guyanise that
included various Uganda communities: Abbey Mushega
of Ankole, Jackson Babwegesa of Kigezi, George
Durametu of Moyo, David Kavuma of Buganda, Secundus
