The grass and seasonal plantings here contribute to the hospital ’ s goal of achieving LEED ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ) gold status – an unusual designation for health care infrastructure , and one that the design , when implemented , should achieve ; nearly 30 % of the grounds will be taken up by landscaping . Valley has designed a central utility plant to produce its own steam , hot water , air conditioning and 40 % of its power so the facility can remain operative during outages and storms , all while reducing the plant ’ s carbon footprint .
