WRITTEN BY BROOKE PERRY PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF DEAN LUIS CHUQUI
DESIGNED BY SHELLEY CEKIRGE, SHELLEY CEKIRGE INTERIORS, TENAFLY
I
nterior designer Shelley Cekirge jumped at the
opportunity to help a young family showcase their
cultural heritage throughout their Tenafly home.
“My clients’ lifestyle, sensibilities and collection of
artwork are strongly influenced by their heritage and
we used that to create vibrant interiors that feel authentic
and comfortable,” Cekirge says. “My job is to synthesize
and pull everything together.”

BOY’S BEDROOM
For the bedroom of a 6-year-old boy whose mother
grew up in Southern California, Cekirge created “a cool
room with a laid-back surfer dude energy.” From artwork
and furnishings to surfboard-style display shelves, the
social beach vibe plays out across the space. Highlights
include a rustic weathered driftwood platform bed and
matching dresser, a ceiling-mounted hemp shade, and
collection of distressed trunks by Uma.
