onna and Matt met in the fall of
2013 when Matt started working at
Brooklyn Prospect Charter School
in Brooklyn, N.Y. Donna had been
working there as a middle school English teacher
since 2011. “We become close when we orga-
nized a middle school spelling bee together,”
says Donna. The couple’s first date was on May
23, 2014 at Wolf and Deer, a cocktail bar in
Brooklyn. After a year and a half of dating, Matt
proposed to Donna on Jan. 16, 2016, atop the
Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie,
N.Y. They tied in how they first starting talking
with their wedding hashtag: #spellingbeemine.
