In early December 2013, Jillian was out with her girlfriends in Hoboken, and Essien was out with his guy friends athis“ usual” Saturday night spot.“ We like tosay when we locked eyes at The Madison, itwas love at first site,” says Jillian. They exchanged numbers that night and went out on their first date the following weekend.“ And amarathon ofafirst date it was,” she recalls.“ We started off with brunch at Amanda’ s in Hoboken and from there wespent atotal of 10 hours together. Wehad an instant connection.” On Christmas Eve 2015, Jillian and Essien had plans to go to Jillian’ s parents’ house for dinner.“ As we were leaving our apartment, Essien got‘ a call’ from one of his friends who said he and his wife were inHoboken and wanted us to meet them for adrink. Right then, Ihad a feeling something was up,” Jillian says.“ We ended up at Amanda’ s— the scene of our first date.” There were no friends in site. It was just Essien and Jillian sitting at the bar enjoying a glass of wine when Essien got down on one knee and asked Jillian tobehis forever.
