20SS: Describe your musical style for us.
As a singer/songwriter what has been one
of your major accomplishments?
JG: I get this question quite often! I try
not to label things too much, everyone has
a different interpretation. But if I had to
describe my musical style, I would have
to say it’s a mix of folk and pop. In some
songs I add a hint of reggae and country.
Experimenting is fun! I’m so grateful for
all of the music opportunities that I’ve had
especially over this past year or so. The main
highlights for me were appearing on The
Episode and the TEDx Nickel City event. I’m
currently working on my first album, which
is set to come out later this year!
20SS: What are your thoughts on
Sudbury’s music scene?
JG: I love the Sudbury music scene and am
so proud to be a part of it. I have met so
many local musicians and each of them have
welcomed me with open arms and have
allowed me to share the stage with them.
I have also met many amazing musicians
touring through Sudbury. It’s so great to be
able to connect with so many artists.
20SS: Why did you decide to get
involved in extreme sports?
CP: It was the friends I grew
up with, we all enjoyed the
same things and were always
competitive towards each other,
and that moved from bicycles
eventually to dirt bikes and
snowmobiles.
20SS: You have a YouTube
channel, what kinds of videos
can we find here?
CP: Mostly motorsport videos,
these include motocross, snow
cross, and wake boarding.
20SS: What is the most extreme
thing you have ever done for a
video?
CP: I’m in school to become a
pilot and for one of the lessons
you have to do spins in the plane.
I decided to put a camera on the
back of the plane and film that.
20SS: Not only do you perform and write
your own music, you also design your
own jewelry. What kind of pieces do you
create and where can we get our hands
on some?
JG: I’ve always been super crafty, but
jewelry making is pretty new to me. I’ve
been experimenting and working with
wire, gemstones, and crystals. I find it so
interesting that stones and crystals have
so many healing properties for the physical,
psychological, emotional, and spiritual body.
I’ve been studying these healing properties
with the help of the Internet and some
awesome textbooks! I’m thinking about
creating an Etsy shop, but for now my
creations can be found on my Facebook
page; Creative Articulations by Justine
Giles.
20SS:The owner/editor and graphic
designer for coffee news how did this
come to be?
JG: In early 2011 I was finishing up the Art &
Design Fundamentals program at Cambrian
College, and my dad had mentioned to me
that one of his best friends was selling the
coffee news franchise for the Sudbury area.
I didn’t hesitate to tell him that we should
absolutely invest in the company. The timing
was so perfect, as I was learning about
graphic design at the time. So when we took
the company over I was able to design new
ads with great ease, and apply my new skills
and knowledge. Truly meant to be!
20SS: Best part of what you do?
CP: The best part about making
YouTube videos is having fans that
look up to you.
20SS: Who or what influenced
you to get into filming videos?
CP: YouTube is such a popular
website and five years ago I
wanted to become a part of it. A
cousin of mine helped me start
uploading, and after that family
and friends encouraged me to
continue.
JG: Being a spiritual mentor to me is just
about sharing my insights openly and
genuinely. I love to help others reconnect
with their higher selves, and remember
the inner strength that lies within each and
every one of us. As a pre-teen and teen,
I greatly struggled with self-acceptance
and self-love. Over the years, I’ve realized
my strength and potential, and somehow
healed many wounds on my own. I feel so
honoured to be able to help others along
their healing process, and even if someone’s
not dealing with an intense self-battle; I still
enjoy sharing my light, love, and positive
messages!
20SS: You are a singer/songwriter, jewelry
designer, owner/editor of coffee news and
a spiritual mentor; what influenced you to
jump into all of these endeavours?
JG: Everything honestly just comes natura
