Purpose statement:
This activity was created to teach fixed structures to thank and to apology in order to get the students familiar with these phrases and sentences.
Objective:
At the end of this activity, the students will be able to identify, produce, reproduce, modify, and recognize different sentences and expressions to apology and thank by using certain structures.
Materials and resources needed: Board and markers of different colours. Paper shits enough for the whole class to practice.
Description of the activity:
To introduce the activity, the teacher will ask the students to give expressions to thank and apology, writing them on the board (This will take no more than five minutes). After this, the teacher will write on the board some other expressions that will be used in the unit. Having this, the teacher will ask the students to repeat the phrases after him/her five times each at loud. All this process can take between five to ten minutes.
After repeating the main sentence, the teacher will change some words or expressions, all related to the topic in order to that the students cover all the vocabulary to be used. In this activity, the teacher will use formation and backformation sentences that will help students to get familiar with the different expressions and the correct patterns for thank or apology. This part of the activity cannot take more than fifteen minutes.
At the end of the activity, the teacher will give a paper shit with the phrases used in classes and will ask the students to work in pairs, making one student read the sentences and the other one repeat them and then switch the roles. For this the teacher will give the students ten minutes as maximum.
As a whole, this activity will last between forty to fifty minutes, depending on the speed of understanding of the group.
