Once we knew about it , we got recertified , won a contract for Chase Center and then started getting additional projects — without this , our company would not be open today .”
The Chapter 14B LBE Program has created vital work opportunities for local businesses such as Anco by helping to level the playing field . “ The City did right by creating the Chapter 14B LBE policy , because it ’ s not the old school non-binding ‘ good faith effort ’ – it is a requirement . Prior to this , out-of-town contractors were getting awarded all the public works contracts because they had much lower overhead expenses than local contractors , so they could always underbid us . The cost of living and doing business is much more expensive in San Francisco , so this policy has helped to ensure that local companies like ours get a share of the pie , which also strengthens our local economy ,” clarifies Nick , who gives kudos to all those who helped draft and enact the legislation – especially Miguel Bustos and Mara Rosales .
