MISSISSIPPI BLUES- Dickie Pate and EBONY ' S BAR MAID receive a " Mississippi Blue " after winning the Two-Year-Old Filly Class at this top threehorse ' til the workout, then hollered, " Come up,” and up he came. DE LIGHT’ S THUNDERBALL, ridden by Ben Rogers, was a very close contender. THUNDERBALL got progressively better during the class and never lost his motion. He really made some great passes in the workout. The judges made up their minds in the eleven-horse workout and the decision was Mr. Parnell as the victor with Mr. Rogers taking reserve. Dr. H. S. Rayner on SPUR’ S SUPREME made a consistent show to tie third. MAGIC’ S BLACK PEPPER, shown by Eston Bennett, walked away with fourth.
Another exciting class was the junior stake. Spectators witnessed a nip-and-tuck duel between Jimmy Waddell on SHADOW’ S GO BOY
and Jimmy Holloway on MAGIC
PRINCESS when a running walk was called. SHADOW’ S GO BOY was awarded the blue and MAGIC PRINday show. This fine filly is owned by Mr. and. Mrs.
Nolan Smith of Brownsville, Tennessee, and should be one to watch.
CESS the reserve. Mack Motes let SUMMER LOVE sit back on the rail and walk- she made a consistent show for third place. Russell Pate on DELIGHT’ S HONEY GOLD, Junior Mare Class winner, took fourth place.
MASTER COPY captured the blue in the Two-Year-Old Stake. Under the capable hands of Russell Pate, MASTER COPY got better and better. ALLEN’ S DELIGHT with R. H. Posey riding came forth with a lot of speed and motion to take reserve. Dickie Pate on EBONY’ S BAR MAID, Two-Year-Old Filly Class winner, was third. A very impressive bay colt with a driving back-end, BIG SHOT’ S CHATTER BOX, with Jimmy Holloway up, took fourth place.
The Three-Year-Old Stake also had top contenders. Ronnie Spears had G UNSMOKE’ S FIREBALL right and ready. DELIGHT’ S DARK SHADOW with Neil Robinson aboard was right, too, and the judges had some tough decisions to make. Both horses wrere breaking up over the rail and moving on down the road. The judges’ decision awarded FIREBALL the blue and Neil the reserve.
Lack of space prohibits complete details on all the results. A complete listing of winners may be found in the Horse Show Results section.

This Mississippi classic horse show is known for its management and organization, and much of that credit goes to Shelby T. Lilly, the executive secretary of the Mississippi State Charity Horse Show Association Incorporated. Without Mr. Lilly’ s dedicated determination the show would not be in the spotlight that it is in today. President of the board is Bob Perry. Vice Presidents are Robert N. Stockett, Sr., Charlie Maddox, and Stanford Levings. The treasurer is Leon E. Lewis, Jr., and the secretary is Joe Speed. The horse show is
put on with the cooperation of the Jackson Exchange Club.
The staff of the show asked that their appreciation be extended to all of the exhibitors not only for coming, but for their cooperation and help in making the show such a tremendous success. A round of applause is due both management and exhibitors.
The 1 * 970 Mississippi State Charity Horse Show promises to be even bigger and better, so don’ t miss it... it will be a hot one!
