Following her sister ' s good example, Anne Daugette and ROCK-A-BYE LADY won the first championship class of the 1969 Celebration with the Judges all agreeing that she was the cream of a good crop of horses. The judges were unanimous in their choices for the first three awards, and three finer horses would be hard to find. The reserve title went to SILVER SHADOW ' S REPLICA and Cissy Best. This horse and rider form a hard-to-beat team and were a popular choice for the number-two spot. MONEYTREE’ S SHADOW and Laura Brandon were number three in this class, but have won their share of honors in the past.

One of the most talked-about horses on the showgrounds was the winner of this class— HANDSHAKER ' S DELIGHT, with Donald Paschal in the saddle. This powerful black stallion put on an outstanding show to tie first on all
three judges ' cards. Donald has had a banner year with HANDSHAKER’ S DELIGHT and this performance was typical of his efforts throughout the season. The reserve award went to Joe Martin riding REFLECTION ' S SHADOW, another horse that had Celebration visitors talking. Joe and his horse kept the pressure on the winners throughout the class and were a deserving reserve. Donald’ s brother Sam tied third, riding last year’ s Three-Year-Old World Champion. GO BOY ' S BLACK ROOSTER.

Stuart Whitener capped off a brilliant season aboard SETTING SUN DELIGHT with a great victory against top competition. This cocky black pony has been a winner all year and he was up to his biggest challenge on this night. He was also shown several times in junior competition
this season by trainer Bill Sledge and racked up a number of impressive victories. The reserve award went to Priscilla Talley riding EAGLE ' S ACE, a pony that turns in a creditable performance every time he is shown. The number three pony in this class was DAWN ' S DELIGHT, Steve McLaurin riding. Steve exhibited his horse to perfection and labeled himself as one of the young riders to watch for in the future.
