This class featured three entries and the judges were unanimous in their placing of all three horses. Winning the honors was the great EBONY MASTERPIECE for his owner. Billy Hale of Gallatin. The second place choice for the second year in a row was RODGERS PERFECTION, for owners Short & Thompson of Shelbyville. This entry tied reserve to GO BOY’ S SHADOW in 1968. The number three selection was SUN SET S owned by Jack Brewer of Florence. Alabama. EBONY MASTERPIECE won the World Grand Championship in 1962 with Sam Paschal in the saddle. Since that lime he has become widely recognized in the horse business as one of the leading sires.

The first saddle class of the show was so large it had 10 be split into two divisions and still the ring was crowded with fillies. Winner of the A division was JUBILEE DANCER with Chalmus Davenport in the saddle. Ronnie Spears and QUEEN OF SPADES were the reserve choice of the judges, tying first on one judge ' s card.
Rounding out the lop three was SPIRIT ' S SATIN DOLL with Jimmy Hicks the man doing the riding. The final workout in this class featured thirteen horses from a total entry of 43. while a fine Saturday-night crowd of 10.361 spectators cheered their favorites.

This division attracted 41 entries with the final workout consisting of 15 horses. The winner of this hot competition was Neal Branscum riding JOHNNY’ S LITTLE MYSTERY for Mr. and Mrs. Hudie M. Brown of Columbus, Georgia. Neal’ s filly was working well and maintained her form even during the latter stages of the class. Lightning Gregory and SPIRIT’ S BEST CHANCE were the first-place choice of judge Steve Hill but had to settle for second place in this class. Dickie Pate and EBONY’ S BAR MAID were the thirdplace finishers after receiving the first-place vote of referee Bob Lindsey.
