The finals in the Two-Year-Old com petition saw Jimmy Holloway and his horse beat Buddy Black and BLACK SHADOW in a real battle. Hershel did not show his filly back in the championship. The third place tie went to Hershel riding SUN’S SUPREME, a stud with which he tied third in the Stallion preliminary. The twelve blue ribbons in profes sional classes break down as follows: Doug Wolaver - 3; Jimmy Holloway - 2; Boyd Hudgins - 2; Hershel Talley, Albert Rowland, Wink Groover, Jim my Ellis and Jimmy Hicks - 1 each. Five trainers won a grand total of seven ribbons each - Jimmy Hollo way, Wink Groover, Bud Dunn, Jim my Ellis, and Boyd Hudgins. These totals pertain to professional classes only. The Amateur Championship for the Mobile Show went to GO BOY’S LA DY ANN and the very attractive Karen Cashion. Reserve was won by PRIDE OF. SPRING and Gayden Schrock, with SUN’S PLAYBOY and W. B. Cherry rounding out the top three. Karen and her horse made two sparkling shows, winning the preliminary as well as the champ ionship. She made one of her best shows on this great horse in the championship. V. G. "Red” Goch- neaur won the Open Amateur Pre liminary with EBONY’S ROSE but did not show back in the champion ship class. The Juvenile competition turned out to be a very spirited and hard- fought battle between GRAND JOY and Merrill Talbot, and GO BOY’S BLACK BARON and Jan Wright. Merrill and her horse defeated Jan j twice - in both the Preliminary aqd the Championship classes. It was close in both classes but even more so in the finals. Merrill never lost her poise in her battle with the experienced Jan, and came out of a two-horse workout with the blue. This was a great triumph for Merrill since she beat a proven team and one of the greatest young lady competitors in the horse business. Keep an eye out for Merrill and her horse, as she seemingly gets better and better with each trip into the ring. The Under 12 Years Old prelimin ary was won by the talented team of SUNSET STRIP and Linda Kirchler. Linda and her horse made a strong show and we will no doubt be seeing much more of this fine young lady in the years to come. The Pony Class was the least pop ular with the crowd. It saw EAGLE’S ACE and Priscilla Talley upset the 1968 World Champion, SETTING SUN’S APOLLO, and Lynn Doughty. It was a bitter pill for Lynn to take, as Mobile is her home town, but everyone who knows her is sure she will bounce back with even more determination. This was undoubtedly the biggest triumph of Priscilla and EAGLE’S ACE’s career. Anytime you defeat a champion, you have reason to be proud. The third place honors in the pony class went to SETTING SUN’S LITTLE ANGEL and Beth Rambo. The hospitality of this year’s show committee was very gracious, as exhibitors and magazine represen tatives were treated with great cor diality. The Mobile Show in 1968 was one of their best and certainly will be a big help in making subsequent shows equally successful.
