There is no doubt that this has been one of the busiest months for the West Coast, sending Walking Horse enthusiasts on the road from practically one end of this state to the other. Between the shows a couple of interesting highlights took place that added to this busy schedule. One was "The Festival of the Horse,” held during the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, which found Sunderland Farms providing ROSES GO BOY GO, ridden by Boe Mazzetti, for the Walking Horse representative. This was a very enjoy able show and was well received by the audience. The other highlight, a charity event, was held at Blue Ridge Ranch in Clovis, with the guests of honor being Mr. Pat Boone, his wife, and their four daughters. The California Walking Horse Futurity and Show was a long day filled with excitement and keen com petition. The manager, Mrs. Florence Bishop, and the entire Horse Show Committee are to be compli mented for what I understand was "the largest Futur ity to date.” I also heard from a Fair official that the Walking Horse Futurity was the only one during the Pair that completely filled the stands. The judge, Mrs. Lew Williams of Eugene, Oregon, did a creditable job °f tying the classes to add to her reputation. Ring Steward Lloyd Yount and the well-known announcer Malcolm Rossoll also contributed to the success ol this show. This Futurity followed the pattern of the November, 1967 TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE PERFORMANCE WALKING HORSE OPEN: (1) KNIGHT SHADE. Dal Hope up for Mrs. Crosby Pendleton; (2) TEN NESSEE SHADOW. A fine MERRY DOUGHBOY filly captured the Weanling Champion ship, while the Yearling Champion was a GO BOY’S TROOPER filly. The winner of the Get of Sire was MR. MILLIONAIRE, and the Two-Year-Old Perform ance Class was won by MR. MOGUL. The Kern County Fair and Horse Show held in Bakersfield was a good four-day show with a full clas sification for the Walking Horse Division. For the complete results from this show and all other one- and two-day shows check the Horse Show Results section. The Northern California Fifth Annual Walking Horse Show, held at the State Fairgrounds in Sacramento, was another successful show in the month of October, with almost perfect weather. It was sponsored by the Northern California Tennessee Walking Horse Associ ation whose president is Mr. Donald V. Smith. The Show Manager was Mr. G. H. Roberts and the com mittee members - Mrs. Francis North, Mr. J. D. Lan ders and Mr. Merle Brown - all helped to make this their "best show yet.” The judge, Mr. Bob Campbell, displayed his ability in the ring by tying a very good show. Ringmaster Mr. Paul Christman was kept very busy while Mrs. Marjorie Long was in the center as sisting. The capable June Fallaw was on the job as official photographer. The organ music, another en joyable part of this show, was provided by Aletha Bowman. Announcer Mr. Bob Vargas did an outstand ing job at the mike and made me think I was back at the National Celebration with the style and humor 35
