Mr. Bob Woodruff, Athletic Director of the University
of Tennessee, provided the VOICE with pictures of the horses exhibited and included proofs of the promotional pages which appear in the program for every game. We regret that pictures were not available on all of the“ mascots” for the past season. Mr. Woodruff has assured us that the Walking Horses are a welcome attraction and that they are looking forward to our participation next year.

Recently I had an opportunity to talk to Mr. C. V. Nalley, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga. At one time Mr. Nallcy was most active in the Walking Horse business. Here in Gainesville he. stood three of the best stallions to be found: WILSON’ S SHOW BOY, HILL’ S WILSON ALLEN, & BEST CHANCE. These sires arc principally known for the good brood mares they have sired. Several years ago, though, Mr. Nalley reversed the old saying,“ Get A Horse” and sold his farm and the stallions and has since become one of Georgia’ s most prominent Chevrolet deal-
1 ers. Talking about the old days, Mr. Nallcy amused us by telling of the time he turned down an opportunity to j buy MIDNIGHT SUN for the sum of $ 2,500 when old | SUN was just a yearling at Mr. John A. Hendrixon’ s j barn.“ I’ m such a good judge of horseflesh!!’ Mr. Nalley said.
About two weeks ago we heard about a gentleman near us who owned a WILSON’ S ALLEN marc. Mr. T. Martin, her owmer, was most gracious when we called on him and took us on a tour of his farm and showed us WILSON’ S ALLEN’ S MITCH IE, who is by WILSON’ S ALLEN and out a MITCH F-5 mare. MITCH IE was a delight to sec. She is fat. in marvelous health, and I felt I was looking at a priceless museum piece. However, I found out that MITCH IE is not quite ready for a museum yet, because Mr. Martin plans to breed her this Spring and told us that she produced a colt only two years ago. She is 27 years“ young”, and Mr. Martin is sure he owns one of the very last WILSON’ S ALLEN mares. I would love to know how many others there arc around.
Recently Ellison Farms was visited by trainer Wink Groover and Mr. Bob Burnette, former owmer of SEN SATIONAL SUNDUST. It was good to sec them again. Wink currently has three good MIDNIGHT SUN twoyear-olds for Bill Ellison, and one of them, a sorrel stud, took the reserve in the two-year-old class at the recent Gainesville. Fla. show, his first time in a ring. Mr. Ellison has worked very hard this past year and this spring he should have some marvelous colts bv his stallions SUN’ S PRIDE E. and SUN’ S CELEBRATION.
I was sorry to hear of Mrs. W ink’ Faye) Groover’ s recent illness and stay in the hospital. Everyone loves Faye and wish for her a rapid recovery.
Have been hearing wonderful reports on the demon pony. SUN’ S TORNADO, owned and ridden by Miss Pollv Singletary of Thomasville. Ga. I always enjoy watching this twosome, and Miss Polly has really found the key to this pony.
You know it’ s a pleasant surprise to discover how many celebrities own and enjoy Tennessee Walking Horses. There is President Johnson, singers Eddie Arnold and Jimmy Dean, and former Lt. Gov. Peter Zack Geer, of Georgia. And then who can forget Gene Autrcy’ s Champion. who was bv BROWN ALLEN.
Guess that’ s all for this month. Just one more thing. Our vet says to be sure to vaccinate against encephalitis this Spring. I hope all of you will send me your news soon so that everyone across the country can become better acquainted with our Georgia Walkers.
