A whole new and wonderful year stretches ahead that promises to provide plenty of time for all of us to do the many things we have resolved to do. One thing I really would like to see is more people volunteering to write articles in magazines. There are many people who have priceless knowledge and insight into the world of horsedom, and it is a shame that more of them are not sharing this knowledge with others. Nonetheless, there are still some very interesting articles being published. Take for instance the article in the December issue of the VOICE by Dr. F. L. Rogers on MIDNIGHT SUN. This was a very informative article, especially to those who have just recently become acquainted with Walking Horses. So please, let’ s have more articles like these from you people who have interesting stories to tell.
Here in Georgia, people have already started preparing for the 1967 show season. Horse show committees are already springing into action, and people have started working their horses in earnest again.
Here in the Gainesville area are two relative newcomers to the Walking Horse business. They are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lantz. They have several excellent horses— especially an outstanding two-year-old. There is also a new stable in the making for these fine folks.
Fairly reliable rumor has it that Boyd Hudgins is moving back to Gainesville to open a new show stable. Boyd has been up here scouting around for real estate, so it’ s pretty well certain that he will be opening a stable here soon. This move will make Gainesville a busy horse town. Already here are the Curtis Hudgins Stables, Boyd Brown Stables, J. K. Crumley Stables, A & T Stables, Ellison Farms, Colters Corral. Lantz Sables, Boyd Hudgins Stables, and Wahoo Stables.
I want to remind everyone to send in their news. This is Georgia’ s column, so let’ s use it to report news of your horses and other activities. Ditty of the Month:
“ On a horse you find two feet behind and two you find be-fore,
BUT— You have to stand behind to find what the two behind be fore.”
MRS. RICHARDSON PASSES
The staff of the VOICE would like to express its deepest condolences to Jimmy Richardson, horse show organist of world renown, on the death of his mother recently.
Mrs. Lillian Gill Richardson died at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 72. Mrs. Richardson passed away on January 20.
Jimmy is one of the top horse show organists in the world in addition to handling an insurance firm. We know all of Jimmy’ s many fans and friends join with us in our feelings at this time.

Time to get back to our horse now after the holidays. I remembered mine at Christmas with some badly needed tack and I must admit I slipped them an extra carrot and ONE cube of sugar. Fun to spoil them once in awhile, for my horses are good and faithful friends.
I go out to Dr. Kuhlman’ s and James V. Steele’ s Stables every once in awhile for they are right here in Humboldt. They call their stable the K & S. It is a very attractive place and a pleasure to visit. Dr. Kuhlman, our local Veterinarian, and Mr. Steele have not been in the business very long. They are newcomers, but certainly won their share of ribbons last year. They do their own training, breeding and showing.
SUN’ S CHANCE, a black stallion owned by Dr. Barker, is standing at stud in this stable. This is the stallion Dr. Robert Barker rode to reserve two-year-old world championship. K & S is working three offsprings of SUN’ S— a coming three-year old mare, MOVING MELODY. This sorrel mare is the one James Steele rode last season with alot of success and is shaping up more each day. A very pretty sorrel stallion coming two-year-old that has show horse ways right now. Then there is CHANCE’ S MIGHTY MIKE ridden by Susan Kuhlman. This pretty red haired teenager was a familiar face at all the shows last year. Susan and MIKE earned several blues and nearly always come home in the money.
K & S are mighty busy these days for in addition to the above, they are breaking four two-year olds and two three-year olds.
It is always fun to make the short trip over to Brownsville and Jimmy Waddell’ s Stable. No doubt about it, this is a hard working training stable. A lot of horses and even more activity. Jimmy has ten two-year olds, three SHA DOW colts, three MIDNIGHT MACK K Colts, two EBONY colts, one MACK K REBEL and one MID NIGHT GLO. Mrs. Parnell has her champion, GO BOY’ S BRENDA LEE, stabled here. Mr. and Mrs. Parnell have their other horses here with Jimmy. There are also three coming three-year old studs and one stallion by EBONY MASTERPIECE owned by Dr. R. E. Baney of Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Waddell has some young stallions for sale and a four-year old HAP SENSATfON and an eightyear old ALVIN horse. These are good amateur horses for someone.
Had to laugh at Mr. Waddell when he stated he didn’ t talk about his horses too much, but just waited to see their performance in the ring.
Hope to have more news next month. We have been very busy with mid-term exams and that hasn’ t left much time to go visiting. But you can be sure, I will never get too busy to go“ Horsein’ Around.”
