unique ability to produce “black” in a large majority of
his colts. He produces something else that is characteristic
also . . . “lots of grit.” There are many trainers and horse
men who insist that “all SHADOW colts are alike in one
respect. They are temperamental with a flair toward in
dividualism.” It takes a little bit more time and patience
to ‘make* a SHADOW horse,” so they say. But when you
finish the job you are bound to have something special.
His colts stand as ample proof of this statement. When we
consider the record number of modern-day winners that
SHADOW has sired it is easy to see that he is outstanding
in this respect. In his “shadow” we find such outstanding
horses as SHADOW’S UNTOUCHABLE, SHADOW’S
GAY LADY, CINDY’S SHADOW, OUR SHADOW,
SHADOW’S RED ACE, SHADOW’S LUMINAIRE,
SHADOW AT MIDNIGHT, SHADOW’S JET, SHAD
OW’S BLAZE, SHADOW’S DOLLY NELL, SHAD
OW’S SIGNATURE, SHADOW’S PARADER, SHAD
OW’S REPLICA, SHADOW’S SILOUETTE and finally
the winner of the 1966 World Championship Yearling
Class, SHADOW’S LILA. These are but a few of the more
outstanding show horses that have made the name of GO
BOY’S SHADOW highly respected throughout the horse
world.
It is significant that SHADOW colts have consistently
topped major horse auction sales for several years, 1966
included. A majority of winners in almost every colt class
in the past few years have been sired by SHADOW and
if his popularity continues it is a certainty that we will
see many more.
The Bailey-Montgomery Stables, owned and operated
by Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Bailey of Jackson, Mississippi and
Mr. Jack Montgomery', is located on the Lcwisburg High
way just west of Shelbyville, Tennessee. The stable housing
this great horse was formerly owned by the late Winston
Wiser, the man who made and showed GO BOY’S
SHADOW to greatness in the Walking Horse world. It
is now one of the finest major breeding facilities in the
business, with SHADOW as the feature attraction.
Standing with SHADOW this year are two other fine
stallions of note. SUN’S BLACK MAGIC L.M., a top stud
that has sired such show ring champions as MAGIC
KNIGHT and MIGHTY SUNBEAM, is standing the
1967 season here and all indications are that he is going
to be a most popular stallion. BLACK MAGIC, as he is
known, is a beautiful black horse with excellent conforma
tion and lots of bloom. He has already proven his ability
to pass these qualities along to his get. This stud is owned
by the LYN-MAR Stables in Louise, Mississippi, and is
the property of Marjorie Gill.
Also standing at the Bailey-Montgomery Stables is an
outstanding SHADOW stud named SHADOW’S RE
FLECTION, owned by Joe and Judy Martin of War-
trace, Tennessee. Joe and Judy have assumed the man
agement of the stable facilities of the old Patent Leather
Stables in Wartrace and with a barn full of show stock
just did not have time to carry on a large breeding pro
gram. Jack Montgomery, manager of Bailey-Montgomery
Stables states that they are very pleased to have a stallion
such as SHADOW’S REFLECTION at their breeding

farm and feel that they will have a most successful season.
There is another reason for excitement at this stable
this year besides the breeding program. Everybody is all
worked up over a sensational Junior Stallion named
SHADOW’S GOLD BOND. This is a black stallion that
is the personal property of Jack Montgomery. Jack has
brought this horse along at a slow speed, striving for the
this stallion himself and now feels that he is ready for the
same natural lick that made his sire great. He has trained
this stallion himself and now feels that he is ready for the
test. From what we have seen and what we hear, we
better add SHADOW’S GOLD BOND to the growing
list of great Junior horses to be seen in the showring this
season.
