BUCKEYE WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION NEWS By Margaret A . Wolfe , Reporter
The January dinner meeting of the Buckeye Walking Horse Association was held January 13th at the Brown Derby Restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls , Ohio .
The meeting was called to order by President Dr . Sidney Gilbert . The minutes and the treasurer ’ s report of the previous meeting were read by Goldie Boerner , Secretary-Treasurer .
The agenda for the meeting was a discussion of the plans for the forthcoming horse show to be held May 22 and 23 co-sponsored by the Buckeye Walking Horse Association and the Yusef Khan Grotto Mounted Patrol of Akron for the benefit of the Happy Days School for handicapped youngsters . It will be a point show for the American Horse Show Association , the Tri- State Horse Association and the Central Ohio Saddle Club Association .
Mr . James Johnson was appointed show chairman by President Gilbert with a committee to assist him . Members of the show committee are : Mr . Kenneth Leinard , Mr . and Mrs . Herbert Mueller , Mr . and Mrs . Marvin Holloway , Mr . Guy Watts and Mr . and Mrs . William Wardle .
A motion was made to change the meeting time from 7:00 to 7:30 allowing time for distant members and guests to arrive in time for the meeting . The motion was carried unanimously . Attendance numbered 40 including six guests : Clarence Huss , Oregon , Ohio ; Clayton Henry , Sylvania , Ohio ; Leo Hendrix , Toledo , Ohio ; Clyde Tolle , Canton , Ohio ; Jack Hays , Cuyahoga Falls , Ohio , and Sam Ramsey of the Midnight Oak Farms , Shelbyville , Tenn . Mr . Ramsey extended an invitation to club members to visit ' their establishment . He discussed the various stallions they have standing at the farm , stud fees and ,’, the guaranteed foal program . One of the stallions standing at the farm is GO BOY ’ S CHEERLEADER , the horse Ray Tenpenny trained to be one of the top contenders for the World Championship in 1961 .
The next meeting will be held February 17th at the Embers Restaurant , West Market Street , Akron , Ohio . Anyone interested in membership should contact Goldie Boerner , 1139 Welmon Avenue , S . E ., Massillon , Ohio 44646 .
