CLASS 4 - OWNER-AMATEUR LADY RIDERS ON WALKING MARES OR GELDINGS, ANY AGE Putting her years of show ring experi ence to good use, Kay McFarland, riding the famous MIDNIGHT QUEEN BEE, tied the blue in this class. Tying second was the ever-popular Shirley Sharp on GO BOY'S MEG. Shirley put on the best show of her career and made a strong bid for top honors. If MEG enjoyed the class as much as Shirley did, it was all worth while. LADY GODIVA, ridden in perfect form by Mrs. Frank Parnell, tied third in this class of experienced exhibitors. This was one of the fastest and most exciting of the entire show. All winners worked for their ribbons. These Juveniles really put on a show and compete strongly. Jan Wright, riding her DARK SHADOW, tied the top spot in a popular decision. Close behind was Merrill Talbot on MERRY BOY’S SUN, to tie second. Pushing all the way was little Brenda Bramlett on MERRY MELINDA, who made a sterling performance to take third. This was one of those classes that made the crowd sit up and take notice and right down to the last workout it was nip and tuck. Sometimes neglected ... the Equitation phase of Walking Horse riding always produces gratifying results at the C elebration. In this class the Judge ties the rider and not the horse. Emphasis is made on position, natural riding ability and the other elements acquired by the trained Equestrian. Jan Wright, of Nacogdoches, Texas, proved to be outstanding and was the winner of the blue. From Tuscumbia, Alabama, Charlotte Neill made an excellent performance to tie second and Robbie Pegram, of Tupelo, Mississippi was third. Judge Doris Duke had her hands full with an excellent class.
