Class No. 41 COLORED GROOMS ON WALKING HORSES
As always, this class drew the response of the crowd, for here are the men-behind-thescenes, whose experience and knowledge is invaluable to many top trainers. James Trice, riding BIG SHOT’ S FIRE BALL, put on a hot performance from start to finish to tie the blue on all three cards. Second was ALLENS BLUE BLAZE, ridden by James Byrd who received this spot with one judge and the referee and a sixth from another judge. Willie McGee put MAGIC’ S RINGLADY through her routine to tie third. He received a third, a seventh and an eighth to win here. The other six winners were a credit to the profession of“ ground man” at a stable.

All that was missing was the famous Cavalry call“ Charge” and a Confederate banner. CONFEDERATE RAIDER, ridden by veteran trooper Vickie Lynn Thompson put on a display of prefect harmony between horse and rider, sufficient to win first on all three cards. Second was RE MEMBER ME, ridden by C. L. Frates who got this spot with one judge and the referee and was tied ninth by one judge. Third ribbon went to number two, GO BOY’ S JET, guided by Nancy Lindsey who received one second place tie and two fourth place ties to win this spot.
