SIZE: Becoming to the rider. Proper proportions make for a better ideal picture.

Straps should always be used on jodphurs. Shoes must be polished and in good condition. Hair must be neat and carefully groomed. Be dressed in time to assure an attractive, neat appearance.
Mount And Dismount
To be executed without discomfort to horse or displacement of saddle. Should be done in a practiced, agile manner, reins properly collected for control.
MOUNT: Stand at left of horse, by saddle, facing either shoulder or barrel.
Gather reins in left hand, use same hand with rein to grasp withers or pommel.
Take stirrup in free hand, turn towards foot, place left foot in stirrup, toe slightly down. Try avoid touching horse’ s side. Place right hand on pommel or cantle. Grasp crest with left hand. SPRING up from right foot, don’ t hop about. Use slight, simultaneous pull of both hands. Keep body close to horse and quickly throw right leg across croup, fairly straight.
Sit down gently. Feel for right stirrup. Check base of support by rising on irons slightly, square saddle. Assume basic position.
Dismount Arrange reins in left hand on crest or withers, right hand on pommel.
Swing right leg quickly across croup, keep body over horse. Step onto right toes, disengage left foot. With legs together disengage left foot and lower both feet to ground using hands to support drop. Don’ t jump down and away.
Keep hands in place until ground is reached spread reins on pommel.
Hold horse by reins, close to bit, standing by head.
