( Continued from page 9) children, and by persons advanced in age. Yet, this“ gentleman of the equines” is game to the core and its abundance of courage is able to cope with all circumstances of its fine and useful life, as well as to aid its rider to meet the exigencies of the road or bridlepath which sometimes come to even the best of those who travel on horseback.
Thus from the distant days when the housewife in calico dress and sunbonnet rode a side saddle to the general store at the cross roads with a basket of eggs on one arm and the reins in the other hand( and probably a child or two behind her), to the present day of ride-a-thons and show rings— the Tennessee Walking Horse has“ walked” and served.’ Tis but small wonder that they are beloved of their breeders and their owners.
Today, this horse has become the elixir to tired business men who seek a not-too-strenuous exercise when the day’ s work is done. In the saddle and on this horse, his face grows ruddy and his whole being is“ tuned up” in the gentle but exhilarating healthful diversion of horseback riding.
So if you have reached the age where you don’ t care to work while you play or labor while you ride; or if it has ceased to thrill you in mastering some spirited steed of rough and fast gait, then you should join the vast army of those who are seeking pleasure in the smooth saddle perfectly relaxed, and enlist among the hundreds who are daily turning to the Tennessee Walking Horse for style without fire, comfort without fratigue, and for an abundance of joy, health and satisfaction which only this supreme pleasure horse can give in the fullest measure.
And if you have children, remember that Nature’ s great out-of-doors is a wholesome and effective physical and spiritual clinic to human experience. Boys and girls who grow up in the saddle are not only supple and stalwart of body and limb, but they are courageous, well-poised, and possessed of clean and alert minds that will save them from maudlin sentimentality and unwholesome complexes. The Tennessee Walking Horse, from this angle with the youth of the land, is a potential bulwark to the moral status of our social order.
To mention particular and outstanding horses of the breed would be to make comparisons which are said to be odious; but there are scores of breeders throughout the nation who own hundreds of these great pleasure horses, many of which have excelled in keen and healthy competition in show rings and have been greatly admired along the roadside and in ride-a-thons held in every section. These men are seeking a market for the products of their breeding and the results of their labors.
The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Association of America, with headquarters and offices at Lewisburg, Tennessee, stands ready to answer your inquiries and to serve your needs toward giving you health and happiness in the saddle while mounted on“ THE WORLD’ S GREATEST PLEASURE HORSE”— and it’ s“ a dollar to a doughnut” if you ride one today, you’ ll own one tomorrow!
