UCC Government & Politics Society is UCC’s one stop
shop for all things related to current affairs and political
discourse. UCC Pol Soc provides both Government and
Politics students and the general student population
with an in-depth, non partisan and a balanced access
to the most important issues impacting our daily lives.
UCC Government & Politics Society has previously
hosted Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers of Ireland
and their foreign counterparts and top current affairs

journalists and business people; going from strength
to strength in the last couple of years and are looking
forward to welcoming new members in September.
From the Government ball to the intense Government
& Politics Cup ( You can Ban Ki-Moon it will be an
good occasion), a full calendar of events and the
highlight of the year which is Politics week, you can
be assured that Government & Politics society is worth
checking out.

HARRY POTTER
The Harry Potter Society is going into it’s second year as a
society. In our society we aim to provide the ultimate Hogwarts
experience to all students at UCC. We will kick off the year
with a sorting ceremony where all of our members will be
sorted into one of the four houses of Hogwarts, the four houses
will then compete throughout the year for the house cup with
activities like Quidditch, Horcrux Hunts, Wizards Chess, Fan
Fiction competitions and more to be announced during the
year. Alongside the house cup we run events tying in the more
serious elements of the series such as debates on the

social issues incorporated into the books. The TriWizard
Tournament will again kick off around November during Harry
Potter Week along with the Yule Ball where NUIG, DCU, UCD
and Mary I will all travel to UCC for the first task. During
the year we will travel to both Dublin and Galway for the
remaining two tasks and we hope to hold onto the TriWizard
Cup in the coming year. There is also Potterfest in NUIG to
look forward to along with a society trip to London to visit the
Warner Brothers Studios. We look forward to seeing you all at
societies day and throughout the year.
