Our City Government

operates under a unique "Special
Charter" which was written for
our community by the State Legislature in
1859. In recent years, Pleasant Hill has experienced rapid growth which has presented the City with many new challenges.
A commitment to quality, imparted by the
Council to the staff, has resulted in the development of a full range of City services
that are provided at levels of excellence
more typically found in larger cities. To facilitate the delivery of these services, City
personnel are organized into the following
departments:
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department consists of a
Chief, a Captain, a Lieutenant, three Sergeants, six full-time Patrol Officers, three
part-time Patrol Officers, one Animal Control/Codes Officer, a part time Codes Officer, and five Communications Officers. The
department utilizes a "community policing"
approach in which officers work hand-inhand with citizens to combat crime on all
levels. Department personnel are very active in various community activities, and
work closely with the School District. Police patrol and investigation activities are
provided 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE

The communications center operates an
around-the-clock dispatching system, and
is one of five 9-1-1 answering points in

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
This department oversees the development process in Pleasant Hill. This includes enforcing building codes, zoning
ordinances, and other regulations pertaining to the development process. Department personnel work closely with the
Council-appointed Planning & Zoning
Board, the Historic Preservation Commission, and the Board of Adjustments to
make sure that growth in Pleasant Hill is
This department is responsible for
managing the City's money, providing administrative direction and assistance to
other City departments, and providing
staff support to the Mayor and City
Council. Staff also works with various appointed Boards and Commissions. City
Hall functions include: water billing and
collection; municipal court; human resources and payroll; purchasing; accounts
payable; budgeting; cash management;
record keeping; risk management; licensing; grant administration; work order
processing; rental of public facilities; recycling program coordination; strategic
planning, and responding to requests
from the public for information and/or
services.
PARKS & FACILITIES
This department is responsible for maintaining City facilities and operating the
Parks system. Park assets include: a 90
acre lake; an outdoor swimming pool; 7
