One of the historic events which took place during his term of office was the school ' s Founder ' s Day Parade on 15th May 1967 . The ocassion was graced by the Honourable Prime Minister of Singapore , Mr . Lee Kuan Yew , the Minister of State for Education , Incik Rahim Ishak , senior military personnel and members of the school ' s Board of Management . Altogether , 1,050 pupils participated in the mammoth parade including the National Cadet Corps , the St . Joseph ' s Institution Military Band and the representatives of other organisations .
When Brother I . Patrick took over the reins of St . Joseph ' s in 1967 , the question of rotation of pupils and staff which had been brewing for a number of years , came to the forefront . After many meetings and consultations , it was decided that Secondary I and II classes would function in the afternoon while Secondary Ill , IV and Pre- University classes would function in the morning . Afternoon session staff members would be gradually absorbed into the morning session as and when vacancies arose . In 1968 , with the reorganisation of the classes , the first group of
In 1972 , St . Joseph ' s Institution celebrated her 120th Anniversary . One of the highlights of the celebration was the visit of the Very Reverend Brother Charles Henry , the Superior General , to St . Joseph ' s Institution . An impressive parade was held by members of the uniformed groups and representatives from other societies to commemorate his visit .
During Brother Patrick ' s seven years as Director , St . Joseph ' s continued to maintain her traditional high standards in academic achievements as well as in extra - curricular activities .
In June 1974 , Brother I . Patrick went on leave prior to taking up his new appointment as the Principal of the newly-built Catholic Junior College . He was succeeded by Brother Joseph Kiely who took over the reins of St . Joseph ' s in June 1974 .
One of the traumatic events which took place during the directorship of Brother J . Kiely was the transfer of all Pre-University classes
