Sir John Anderson proved to be very accornodating and helpful to the school during his term of office as Governor . He and his daughter always presided at the schools Annual Sports and Speech Days . On all those occassions , he spoke most encouragingly of the school . He admired greatly the good work of the Brothers and was ever willing to assist them . To illustrate this , there was an
occassion when the Resident of Malacca refused to sanction a building grant for St . Francis Institution in Malacca . Brother Michael himself collected over $ 1,000 for the new pews . The costs of the stations in the chapel , the construction ofa new wall at the rear of the chapel and the painting of the interior were paid by the Brothers . The cost of all these improvement was about $ 3,000 . The fi rst mass after the renovation was celebrated by Reverend Father Viguol on 14th November 1904 and was attended by well wishers and donors , including Mr . Young Lee Sing .
At the same time , the walls outside the school were painted .
