SPAIN’ S TWO-W

If Spain is the epicentre of global motorcycle racing in so many ways, then the Circuito de Jerez- Angel Nieto is something like its unofficial HQ. Once the preserve of the MotoGP classes, now WorldSBK has settled into the Andalusian circuit very nicely.

Two smaller right-handers, on paper nothing special, but the uphill entry to the first, followed by the downhill entry to the second, make this a challenging little mini-section all of its own. Lots of passing opportunities here. Albert Arenas( AS BLU CRU Racing Team)- who has been a sensation since he arrived in WorldSSP- thinks T2- T3 needs particular attention.“ This is a point in which you go from very slow speed in T2 to the( faster) next left. You cut the kerb there.”

T4 – T5
Riders need care to take under hard acceleration from T4- plus they need to be on line, at the right pace, to take on the next right-hander at T5. Iker Lecuona says it is one of the trickiest corners on the whole track.“ It is quite hard to do well- and it is very important to do it well- so that you can have a good drive onto the next straight.”

T6 – T7
Lecuona says that T6 is his favourite corner at Jerez.“ The section that I like most is T6- Dry Sack. The braking and then the corner itself. It has hard braking, into a very tight righthander, so it is a really good spot to do some overtaking. I felt so comfortable there during the last few years in this corner.” Arenas also singles this corner out as tricky, noting the profound bump on the way in, just before the braking point.
