An evidence-based literature review will be completed to further how occupational therapy in leisure exploration and participation can be included in this type of programming . Electronic literature searches of occupational therapy journals and articles published in CINAHL will be completed to provide a synthesis of relevant literature on the benefits of participation with the arts for persons with dementia . Alexis Schambers , Emily Traae , Madeline Mettee , Evan Kirby , Rachael Miller and Laura Leckey ( P ) The Impact of Arts and Crafts in a Bereavement Group : A Mixed Methods Study The purpose of our mixed methods study is to examine the effects of arts and crafts on the mental well-being of bereaving older adults . We hypothesized that there would be an improvement in the mental well-being of widowers as a result of participating in an arts and crafts program . Our results demonstrated statistical insignificance : however , participants reported positive experiences .

Using quantitative and qualitative methods , post-tests and surveys gauged our results . Findings determined a positive outcome in increased participation and involvement when music was incorporated during crafts . No statistically significant difference was found in the social-emotional well-being of participants . Lily Mai Trinh , Emily Smith , Sarah Haudrich , James Humes and Amirah DeVoue ( P ) Utilizing Community Program Interventions for Young Girls at Risk of Low Self-Efficacy : Advancing the Role of OT in Social Participation- A Scoping Review The purpose of this scoping review is exploring the effects and outcomes of community programs that focus on interpersonal skills development for young girls at risk of low self-efficacy . Electronic literature searches that include databases and occupational therapy journals will include specific inclusion criteria : 1 ) girls ages 8-13 years old ; 2 ) studies from 2014-present ; and 3 ) participants that reported low self-esteem . Implications for occupational therapy practice will be discussed .
