main stage, and why? No shame is what battle rap needs. We need to take battle rap every where and the gay community is where the big bucks is at You recently battled 40 B.A.R.RS, who is an openly gay female battler, and it was probably the most highlyanticipated battle that QOTR has had, to date. Why do you think there’s so much more acceptance of gay females than of gay males in the battle rap culture? We as in men like Gay girls ! Girl on girl is still sexy K PROPHET Battle Rapper Hip-hop lyrics and culture can be homophobic at times. No Shame’s recent appearance on AHAT was met with mixed reviews, ranging from rejection to acceptance to indifference. Do you feel that No Shame’s appearance hurts the culture, helps the culture or otherwise, and why? In reference to NoShame.... As an Open and Community-Active LGBT HipHop /BatteRap Artist. I thought the inclusion of a Transgender battle rapper was actually beneficial to the culture, in that it can open doors for more talent and more controversial battles in the game.. However I won’t deny I kind of thought NoShames Act was a little bit of just that... An Act. I didn’t get an authentic vibe. I somewhat felt it misrepresented the Transgender folk I know. Nevertheless, it was a bold move by AHAT that raised questions, sparked debates and added a new and thought provoking element to the culture. And maybe now more LGBTQ artists, serious about their craft, will feel a little more encouraged to be fearless enough to step into our realm. Why does there seem to be greater acceptance for gay females than gay males in the battle rap culture? I think partly because there’s less visibility for gay males than gay females.. I was the first AG (Aggressively Androgynous Girl) on Queen Of the Ring. And I was influenced by seeing Young Gattas MsFit on Grindtime. Me and Lexx Banko were the First AG vs AG battle in history rather than just on Queen of the Ring. I’m sure we inspired other Lesbian Women to bring forth their battle rap talents. I hear it all the time from people “you motivated me to start battling” or “You representing makes me wanna do the same” ..So to answer too question. Although it took some time, the visibility of aggressive lesbian MC’s builds a foundation for which others of the same kind can feel comfortable to step up to the challenge.. There’s not as much of that opportunity for The Gay Male community. There’s more of a slightly homophobic stigma that still attaches itself to the hip hop community, especially when it comes to gay males.. I think if we can accept things like men stripping live in a room full of males, or so called straight guys smacking each others asses, hugging and all the so called “gay shit” people hate so much.. We can accept gay battlers who might surprisingly be, more serious, respectable of and devoted to the craft and culture then alot of the “straight” battlers today.. I actually know a few, and will be w introducing the world to them soon. They deserve the chance to shine too. Because plenty people didn’t and dont want to see me shine, because of my sexuality and what I represent. But noone , not even those who disagree with my lifestyle, can deny what I’ve brought to ge table of 15
