100 BARS MAGAZINE 001 Sept/Oct 2013 | Page 25

HAZEY AT&T. lol The memories, its one thing to be a fan of this culture its another to live this culture. I’ve been living this culture before I could identify it as a "Culture" 100 Bars: Can you remember your first battle? Hazey: sheeeesh, lol..My 1st battle ....aww man 9th grade ...I battled a senior named Rodney like 12 rounds no lie lmfao I got wild with that guy but I had the vocab of a 9th grader lol it was wild to me. 100 Bars: Who won? Hazey: I won ... lol I got wild with that guy those were the days though b4 the politics of the sport just fun , competitive , lyricism. 100 Bars: What would you say are the politics of the sport? Hazey: In my opinion Money vs. Fan Base Over the years its become more about who's the popular face and how much are they getting paid rather than who’s better MC, who’s hungrier. 100 Bars: That often happens with mainstream artist after they get money, the hunger disappears ...do you think the term “Top Tier” plays into the “politics” as well? Hazey: THE TERM TOP TIER DAMN NEAR RUINED THE SPORT!!! I accept that battle rap has become a market. Markets bring money, money change things for the sake of making more money that’s all top tier is to me , marketing. You know its a thin rising star 100 Bars: Where are you from? Hazey: I’m from Hartford CT Born & Raised. 100 Bars: Where did you get your name from? Hazey: lol just a pot head bro. My name was given to me by the love drug that is LOUD. 100 Bars: When did you first start rhyming? Hazey: Started rhyming when I was 15, Wasn't very good at it lol,But never gave up , the older I got the more serious I took my craft. 100 Bars: What sparked your interest to rap when you was that young? Hazey: My older cousin, He was into The Lox heavy at the time, you know D-Block, so he started rapping and me just wanting to be like him I followed suit. 100 Bars: Who was/is your favorite rapper? Hazey: My favorite rapper then was Jay Z., My favorite rapper now is Joe Buddens. Its something about conveying emotion on tracks that I think both of these MC's do unmatched. Def my favs of past and present. 100 Bars: How do you feel about the mainstream songs not really being about bars or who's the nicest, but more so about a hot beat and a catchy hook with no lyrical substance? Hazey: Good Question Man, In all honesty I feel like the people decide what music is promoted to the main stream. If there into catchy hooks and hot beats then I Support it. Its so many different audiences to appeal to in this industry that I’m sure there's going to always be room for super lyrical deeper than rap songs but we can never forget as artist are goal to express ourselves while appealing to the fans ... this is why we do music to please the public and vent a little. 100 Bars: Do you also make music? Hazey: I do make music, though I’ve made battle rap a priority for the moment, the booth is something I love and will getting back to ASAP. 100 Bars: How did you first get introduced into battle rap? And how did you become a part of it? Hazey: I got introduced to battle rap through an uncle. Shout Out to Brandon!!! He had a DVD that had Fight Klub battles on them ??????????$????????5????5????Y?? ????$??????????????%??????I]MP????????????????$????????????????????!??????$?????????????????????????????????$???????????????$??????5????5????????? ???????????????$???????????????????????????????????$??????????????????????????????Q???qUI0?$???????????????????????????$??????????????????????????????????((??((0
