Habakkuk 1 – 3
The next characteristic evidenced in People of Peace is found in the fact that People of peace
DON’T NEED ALL THE QUESTIONS ANSWERED.
The Prophet Habakkuk, who wrote the book we read today, was a prophet who lost his peace,
but found it again. His story is an intriguing one and one we could all learn from.
He lost his peace at the point of trying to understand the ways of God. He could understand
that God would discipline the nation of Judah because of its disobedience, but he could not
believe or come to terms with the fact that God would give the Babylonians the job to do the
disciplining. The Babylonians were, of all the people, the most wicked and debauched nation.
They worshipped idols and sacrificed their children to them. They were cruel and mean, and
yet God chose them to teach the Judeans a lesson! Habakkuk goes to God and tells Him his
problem (chapter 1), but God does not answer; so Habakkuk does what we all should do, and
finds himself a quiet spot to contemplate his dilemma and wait for God to answer. God
answers in chapter 2 v 2, telling Habakkuk to review all he knows about God and write it all
down –he begins to think back and recounts all the gracious acts of God to the people. He
contemplates the greatness of who God is and brings to remembrance all the facts he knows
about God.
