Break my heart for what breaks yours Everything I am for Your kingdom's cause As I walk from earth into eternity.” Won’t you contemplate the words of this song and make them your prayer today. Sunday 1 Kings 17 v 7 – 24 Today I would like to wind up this devotional series on feeding the hungry to remind you ofTHE BLESSING. Wherever I see people responding to the command of Christ to feed the hungry, I have to realise that there is an associated blessing to this obedience. The incredible story of Elijah in 1 Kings 17 is just one illustration of this truth. In the story Elijah made the most unusual request to the widow of Zarephath that she should give to him her last loaf of bread. He promised her that if she were obedient to his request she would see the supernatural power of God’s long-term provision. I have often wondered how Elijah must have felt making that request, but for some reason this woman recognised Elijah for who he was [a man of God] and she acquiesced to his request, and as a result of her obedience under the most extreme circumstances, God supernaturally showed His approval. This supernatural blessing of God only comes as a result of extreme obedience. There are many other examples in Scripture which would affirm God’s radical approval to radical obedience. The second blessing that comes as a result of our positive response to “…you feed them…” comes by way of personal blessing. To know that what you have done as a result of your obedience could, in God’s hand be something through which God can change the world around you, has to motivate us in our pursuance in the purpose of God for us to be agents of change in this sin-sick world around us. Your acts of kindness can, if not change the world, change your world and in the process change you. When I think of kindness changing the world around us I think of the story I told you on Sunday of the Russian woman who shared her sandwich with a German prisoner of war; a child of probably 16 or 17.
