Daniel 3
Today I would like to continue along the theme that we spoke of yesterday, i.e.
Daniel’s characteristic of desperation-praying.
The first reason that Daniel prayed so desperately was that he could get to know
God better. We learn from this that the intention of prayer is not merely to get our
prayers answered, but is in fact that we would get to know and experience a
greater depth and understanding of who God is. When we get to know God’s
character our spiritual temperature rises and causes us to pray bigger prayers,
and our worship moves to a much deeper level.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall to hear Daniel’s prayers to God. I doubt
very much that they were filled with a shopping list of his needs, but I think that
they were mainly made up of declarations of God’s Goodness, His Glory and His
Grace; each one of these being aspects of who God is. There is no higher ideal of
prayer, I believe, than this and I believe too that there is no one truth that can
more radically revolutionise your Christian experience than this one. Please be
aware that there is always more of God to know and evenwhen we get to Heaven
one day and see Him face to face, we willstill be amazed at all that there is about
Him that we still need to find out.
The second motivation for Daniel’s desperation to pray is that Daniel was allconsumed by the GLORY OF GOD. When you are consumed with the glory of God
nothing will hinder you from praying like Daniel did, and you will
automaticallypray without ceasing.
We can trace Daniel’s passion for the glory of God way back to when he was a
child and he rejected the food. He just knew that eating that food would not bring
