Why We Mean Business
When I first joined the Sacramento Region Business Association ( Region Business ), I was immediately impressed by the caliber of people in the room at our board meetings . Business leaders from all sectors were coming together to share ideas , advocate for our regional business community and grow our economy through pro-business public policy advocacy .
I ’ ve now served as the president of the Region Business board since January 2021 — and I ’ m more impressed than ever . I ’ m consistently blown away by how much pride and passion our members have as residents of this region . As a Sacramentoarea native myself , I share their passion for making this a better place to do business and raise a family .
Over the years , Region Business has accomplished some Herculean tasks — streamlining the Downtown Sacramento housing initiative , saving the arena project that became the Golden 1 Center , paving the way for the Sky River Casino in Elk Grove , bringing permit simplicity to six local municipalities , and helping repeal the ban on big-box stores .
To consistently deliver these results , the key has been to listen to the many voices of our community through our business group ’ s unique structure . We serve as the association manager for several vertically aligned trade associations . Each of these associations works independently but its members come together to discuss issues and brainstorm solutions . This unique model of working together as a coalition to advocate as the broad-based voice of business proves our belief that unity doesn ’ t mean unanimity .
Ultimately , all of our members work together to move the needle of the region and make it a better place to do business .
We helped our members weather the pandemic . We have new initiatives taking off — and some already soaring — that will increase access to capital for local entrepreneurs , provide cutting-edge multi-modal transportation to our region , continue streamlining development and make our community the best it can be . We hope you enjoy this special section highlighting everything Region Business has been , is and will be . I can ’ t wait to see what ’ s next .
