Woodland ’ s Own Community College Paves Paths To Success
“
Woodland Community College addresses the needs of residents in Woodland and throughout Yolo County ,” says Dr . Art Pimentel , president of Woodland Community College . “ Many of our staff and faculty are residents , too , and our entire community has supported the growth of this quality , comprehensive community college . We ’ re honored to be here .”
Launched in 1975 as a Yuba College outreach center , Woodland Community College was accredited as its own community college in 2008 and today has its own outreach centers in Williams and Clearlake . Enrollment has steadily increased with the region ’ s growth and most of the main campus ’ 7,200 students live within Woodland and rural Yolo County .
The pandemic has significantly affected delivery of instruction and student services , revealing Woodland Community College ’ s resilience . Pimentel says , “ Only about 10 % of our courses had been online , but we had to pivot to 100 % online to protect students , staff and faculty . Going forward , we ’ re evaluating online and in-person instruction modalities for what will produce the most success for students .”
Woodland Community College ’ s robust programs lead to a variety of degrees and career education certificates . Expanded Associate Degree for Transfer programs develop specific pathways for students to earn a two-year associate ’ s degree and then transfer to their chosen fouryear institution to complete a bachelor ’ s degree . Partnerships with UC Davis and Sacramento State guarantee transfers for Woodland Community College students who meet criteria including required courses and GPA .
The Woodland campus will soon offer the community even more , breaking ground in January 2022 on a $ 42 million performing arts and culinary services building . The state-of-the-art facility will expand Woodland Community College ’ s academic portfolio , as well as provide the community a performing arts venue .
“ Our goal is for every high school student and community member in our service area to think of Woodland Community College first as a path to a degree , transfer or career ,” Pimentel says . “ We want community members to recognize our wide academic portfolio as an opportunity to improve their lives .”
