The new Powerhouse Science Center offers visual drama on the Sacramento riverfront. Breaking ground in 2018 and setting a rapid pace to completion, the rehabilitation of the century-old historic power station expands to include two new buildings. The entry pavilion will include a reception area, café and retail store. The historic building will house six exhibition galleries on two floors and staff offices. An iconic digital domed theater, administrative offices, conference room and two classrooms will be located in the new structure. Built with a mission to offer interactive opportunities to engage the mind; excite curiosity; and promote science, technology, engineering and math, the new Center will offer the latest in exhibition design. Expect to wander through themed galleries addressing the science behind global issues that are locally relevant. With areas of interest to excite visitors of all ages, interactive experiences will include themes on energy, water, health, nature, space and design engineering. The digital domed theater will screen dramatic star shows and a variety of spectacular films, including lightning storms and epic journeys of humpback whales. A rotating gallery will feature special exhibitions that will continually bring new experiences. Stay tuned for some BIG news that will be breaking on September 17! We can’t wait to bring this much anticipated experience to our community. POWERHOUSESC.ORG
