UNITED STATES COLD STORAGE OPENED ITS 6.8 MILLION-CUBIC-FOOT WAREHOUSE IN MCCLELLAN PARK IN JANUARY 2017. THE MULTI-TEMP (-20F TO +45F) SITE HANDLES A BROAD MIX OF REFRIGERATED AND FROZEN PRODUCTS FROM WELL-KNOWN NATIONAL CONSUMER BRANDS AS WELL AS REGIONAL AND LOCAL COMPANIES. A public refrigerated warehousing leader, United States Cold Storage .(USCS) operates 42 facilities nationwide to store and distribute perishable foods and drinks of all types. These sites handle many of the nation’s best-known brands such as Impossible Foods, King’s Hawaiian and Organic Valley; and consumer favorites from regional and growing manufacturers such as Amy’s Kitchen, Miyoko’s Creamery and Mary Ann’s Baking. Since 1978, USCS’ network has included a Sacramento location, one of nine USCS sites just in California alone. Yet in 2013-2014, USCS’ northern California business was still rising and hitting new heights. That led the company to scout for a second Sacramentoarea location. “To meet the needs of the industry, it was important for us to locate a facility with easy access to the freeway for our business partners shipping and delivering from within California, the Northwest and from the Midwest and East Coast,” says Steve Palefsky, USCS McClellan Park General Manager. “In addition, we were committed to considering properties that were rail-served and that offered room for future expansions. That’s when we discovered McClellan Business Park and our Sacramento growth story began.” In January 2017, USCS opened its 6.8 millioncubic-foot warehouse in McClellan Park. The multi-temp (-20F to +45F) site offers more than 31,000 racked pallet positions, 20 dock doors and a rail siding served by both the Union Pacific and BNSF railroads. The McClellan Park warehouse features 65- foot, enclosed refrigerated docks and multiple storage rooms—each with flexible storage temperature controls. In addition to traditional storage and distribution, the site offers crossdocking; a dedicated quality lab; and temperature controlled special handling room. The facility is annually audited to BRC Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards and exceeds all related food safety standards set by FDA and other state agencies. USCS McClellan Park also offers a full transportation program for inbound and outbound freight movement through its USCS ColdShare program. It generates significant savings for USCS’ food manufacturer customers who can combine their less-than-truckload orders from USCS area warehouses into larger consolidated shipments. “We have helped some start-up companies enter into the food business and begin more complex distribution to distribution centers belonging to Costco, Target and Walmart,” Palefsky notes. “By us offering our expertise with these consignees, we allow our partners to stay focused on their manufacturing and sales.” Not surprisingly, Palefsky says USCS McClellan Park is looking to grow sometime soon. “Our plan is to add additional temperaturecontrolled capacity in the near future, once again facilitating growth for our current partners and opportunities for other partners,” he says. “We are proud to be ‘One Company, One Family, One Team!’” Visit USCOLD.com for more information.
