Atlas Disposal
The Construction Industry ’ s Recycling Partner
Established in 1998 , Atlas Disposal serves the Greater Sacramento area as a full-service waste and recycling collection company . For 24 years , Atlas has been responsible for not only hauling away waste in multiple markets , but ensuring that a large percentage of it is recycled .
“ We are a critical link in the recycling chain that minimizes landfill deposits and sees reuse of vast amounts of materials ,” says Joe Ruffaine , construction waste and recycling manager . “ Construction is one of our biggest markets and customers there — general contractors and subcontractors — generate ton upon ton of waste , yet with a very high percentage recycled .”
Headquartered in Rancho Cordova with an operating site in Sacramento , Atlas also has Phoenix and Salt Lake City locations . The company has national rivals , but Ruffaine says , “ We can do anything they can do , yet we ’ re local enough to provide superior customer service .”
Construction industry customers count on Atlas to ensure that their waste is sorted and recycled . The California Green Building Standards Code , known as CALGreen , is the nation ’ s first mandatory green building standards code , and stipulates that 50 percent or more of construction debris must be recycled .
“ Beyond CALGreen , we ’ re very progressive in diverting materials from landfills , with a goal of 80 to 90 percent ,” Ruffaine says . “ The construction industry has embraced recycling long before the state mandate , with many pursuing national LEED certification and its much higher threshold . Construction lends itself well to recycling as lumber , cardboard , metal , concrete and aggregate materials can all be processed and reused .”
With modern technology , recycling and documentation have become more efficient , but Ruffaine is still looking to maximize technology within Atlas Disposal . “ We ’ re always looking to improve documentation
