New Events Center to Benefit Everyone
Placer Valley Tourism , a destination marketing organization , is responsible for one of Placer County ’ s most significant recent developments that will greatly benefit everyone in the county . The organization has transformed the Placer County Fairgrounds into the cutting-edge events venue now known as @ the Grounds . Many tourism organizations are funded partially from general fund money and transient occupancy taxes , but PVT is unique in that they ’ re funded directly by the 25 hotels they represent in Roseville , Rocklin and Lincoln . “ Our mission is to increase the overall health of the hotel industry in our three cities ,” says Kim Summers , director of marketing .
PVT carries out its mission in part by helping to generate overnight stays in the hotels they represent . To that purpose , they realized that a local events facility would greatly boost room nights . The process to create @ the Grounds started in 2014 with feasibility studies , which led to securing financing and an operational agreement with the county for taking over the fairgrounds in 2017 , renovating existing buildings and constructing the 160,000-square-foot Roebbelen Center . The project culminated in the grand opening of @ the Grounds in 2020 .
“ The board ’ s vision enabled us to create the amazing 55-acre project of @ the Grounds , and especially the Roebbelen Center ,” Summers says . “ If we hadn ’ t had the hotels ’ support to bring this project to the region , any additional room nights would not have been possible .” All in all , PVT invested more than $ 40 million into @ the Grounds .
Feedback has been tremendous as Placer County residents and businesses discover what this grand venue will do for the region by accommodating year-round sports competitions , concerts , trade shows , festivals and more . “ This will bring people to our restaurants , retail establishments and , of course , our hotels ,” Summers says . “ We ’ ll continue to see people discover our area and enjoy our amenities for years to come .”
