Experience The Valley Advantage
Congratulations to Sacramento State on nearly 75 years of excellence ! We are honored to be a part of the legacy they have created ; most recently with the University Union Expansion and Science Complex projects .
“ I ’ m made at Sac State ,” Maisel says , noting that like many of the university ’ s students , he was the first member of his family to go to college . “ What ‘ made at Sac State ’ means to me is , it gave me the tools , it broadened my horizons , and it really shaped how I approached my career path in life .”
Maisel , who also sits on the Greater Sacramento Economic Council , says Sac State is a critical economic driver in the region . About one in 20 adults in the region is a Sac State graduate . “ Another reason I ’ m very supportive — and Western Health Advantage is supportive — of Sacramento State is because an educated workforce is critical to economic development and a lot of graduates of Sacramento State would like to stay in the area ,” he says , adding that he estimates that about 40 % of WHA ’ s employees attended the school . “ It ’ s kind of a hand-in-glove situation , where Sacramento State is good for the business community and the business community is good for Sacramento State .”
Cardoza says she sees a bright future for Sac State and that the university ’ s goal is to ensure it is providing an opportunity for dialogue and discussion in the classroom .
“ In 10 years , I think we ’ re going to be a model for how we educate students in a diverse environment and prepare them for a very unique and diverse and robust workforce ,” she says . “ I really see that Sac State is going to be producing students who , because of the diverse student body that they ’ ve gone to class with , who they ’ ve learned from …( students ) are going to come out of here not just with their degree in hand , but with really a worldwide perspective of what it means to be a global citizen .” Nelsen agrees . “ In this world , with COVID-19 , with social unrest , with everything else , I think we ’ re creating an educated citizenry that will be able to keep our economy strong and keep our democracy safe . We really are on the rise , and we ’ re going to continue to rise forever .”
