EMPOWERING PEOPLE THROUGH FINANCIAL WELLNESS
Rebecca Delmundo , SAFE Credit
Union Assistant Vice President ,
Community Banking , describes a common experience : Few of us talk about money , except in a crisis . Since financial education is rarely a part of school programs , many of us never gain the knowledge or resources needed to manage a budget or credit , let alone invest .
“ Breaking the silence around money can help break the cycle of poverty ,” says Delmundo . Talking with children about money begins a new , positive narrative around finance . “ One of my goals at SAFE is growing within the nonprofit sector to help serve youth in education .”
Delmundo brings that passion to leading a team providing community financial wellness initiatives , including no-cost financial education webinars available to everyone ; the Financial Fitness Academy , an online program that lets you dive deeper into financial topics at your own pace ; as well as leading a dynamic team of financial educators whose sessions are empowering , inclusive , and encouraging .
Did you know one of the top reasons people call in sick to work is financial stress ? That fact motivates SAFE ’ s educators to build a healthier workforce through SAFE ’ s Workplace Financial Wellness . They partner with some of the Sacramento region ’ s largest employers to bring financial education and other wellbeing services to their employees .
Delmundo is a proud CSU Sacramento alum . Having worked her way up through the ranks at credit unions , she pays it forward through community service . Her volunteer work led her to earn Junior Achievement ’ s Volunteer Coordinator of the Year in 2019 .
Delmundo embraces the credit union mantra of “ people helping people ” for her leadership style . “ The credit union philosophy is how I learned so much about leadership . I believe success will follow when you lead with empathy , curiosity , and an openness to learning .”
