Mancunian accent is spoken in Manchester.
It has a throaty sound and shortened vowels.
For example, in Standard English ‘bath’ is
pronounced ‘baath’, but a Mancunian might
say ‘buth’ (rhyme with ‘bus’); the word ‘cup’
is pronounced as a short ‘coop’. ‘My’ is
pronounced as ‘muh’ or ‘me’. Like Cockney,
the letter ‘H’ is pronounced ‘hetch’ in the
north of England. However, the ‘H’ sound is
often omitted in the speech, so ‘ouse’ is for
‘house’, or ‘appay’ means ‘happy’ .
