Johnson’s dictionary seems subjective and not very reliable, as
he chose to exclude words that he did not like. Moreover,
Johnson’s definitions are sometimes more jokey than serious.

horses, but in Scotland supports the people
Dull: Not exhilarating, not delightful: as, ‘to make
dictionaries is dull work’
Lexicographer: a writer of dictionaries; a harmless
drudge that busies himself in tracing the original, and
detailing the signification of words
