The man with the mad mohican hairstyle is the probable winner of the relentless argument about who was the best WorldSBK rider to never quite win the championship .
Aaron Slight ’ s success in ‘ down under ’ racing with Team Kawasaki Australia saw him make his main global moves , riding as a wildcard or one-off in WorldSBK . Podiums and fastest laps were earned by the 1991 Australian Superbike Champion .
The 1992 season , again with Kawasaki , was when WorldSBK ’ s best-ever ‘ Kiwi ’ rider took first WorldSBK win .
One season later he was a full-timer and third in the championship .
From that point on he would finish either second or third right up to 1998 .
Despite all those early successes on green machines Slight is most vividly remembered as riding Castrol Hondas in that iconic white , green and red livery , starting out in 1994 . Although Aaron finished his career - due to a brain bleed that was undiagnosed for some time - on the VTR1000SP vee-twin , it is the equally iconic Honda RC45 vee-four that is most closely aligned with the WorldSBK career of ‘ Slighty .’ Especially with that 111 number plate that added another level of dash and personal iconography .
